Sylvan Constellation
Description
A design concept for a burial ground at Arnos Vale Cemetery in Bristol, England, which won the Arnos Vale Future Cemetery Design Competition in 2016. The concept takes the form of a forest path in which a network of "anaerobic memorial vessels" are embedded at ground level and suspended among the treetops. These memorial vessels would contain the bodies of deceased people, whose remains would be decomposed by microbial processes to transform the biomass into light, to create the appearance of a series of luminous pods.
